Ingredients & Other Information

You can check the ingredients and other details on the back of the package.

Main IngredientsShrimp, wheat flour, starch, sugar, salt, seasoning (amino acids, etc.)

The two ingredients worth paying attention to are shrimp and wheat flour.

First, the shrimp. About 70% of each Yukari cracker is made from natural shrimp!

Calling it a “shrimp cracker” almost feels like an understatement—it’s practically a piece of shrimp in cracker form 😂🦞

Now for the wheat flour. In Japan, “senbei” usually refers to crackers made mainly from rice. Yukari is a little different, though. Instead of rice, it’s made with wheat flour.

As I mentioned in another article, Japanese people sometimes call snacks “senbei” based on their appearance or texture, even if they’re made from ingredients other than rice.

Flavor & Texture

No surprise it’s made with 70% shrimp—the aroma alone is incredibly rich 🦞

From the very first bite, your mouth is filled with an intense shrimp flavor 🦐

The shrimp flavor is so incredibly rich that I honestly thought they used the whole shrimp—even the shells and heads.

But I was surprised to find out that Yukari is made using only shrimp meat. Who knew the meat alone could create such an intense shrimp aroma and flavor?

Here’s the cross section. They’re thin and delightfully crispy.

Although they’re on the firmer side, their thin shape makes them easy to eat.

That satisfying crunch also gives you more time to enjoy the rich shrimp flavor with every bite.

Just one cracker is surprisingly satisfying!

And honestly… these would make an amazing snack with drinks, too! 🍺🍶
