I discovered through Cheese Okaki just how amazing the combination of rice crackers and cheese can be 🤤 I really want you to discover it too!
So, this time, I’m introducing one of my favorite snacks that I’ve loved since I was a kid: Cheese Okaki!
Note: Cheese Okaki comes in regular and mini sizes, and this time I’m trying the mini version.

Package & Individual Wraps
The Cheese Okaki and the cheese really pop against the red background!

With this mini version, the okaki are packed directly inside the outer bag rather than individually wrapped.
Since there’s no individual packaging, the bag has a resealable zipper to help keep the okaki from getting stale after opening. I like these little thoughtful touches 👍
Ingredients & Other Information
You can check the ingredients, allergen information, and other details on the back of the package.
| Main Ingredients | Glutinous rice, vegetable oil, glutinous rice flour, starch, whey powder, non-glutinous rice, soy sauce, cheese powder, etc. |
| Allergy Information | Milk, wheat, soy |

Flavor & Texture
The okaki has a mild soy sauce flavor with a nice savory depth from dashi, and it’s super crispy.

Sandwiched between the okaki is a creamy cheese filling.
The saltiness and savory flavor of the soy sauce, combined with the cheese’s aroma and rich, mellow flavor, make the whole thing even more delicious.

This is exactly what you’d call the The Contrast Effect in taste. (What exactly are “Flavor Interactions”?)
But the secret to why this is so good isn’t just the flavor. Texture plays a huge role, too.

As you can see, the cheese is sandwiched between two pieces of okaki. Instead of putting cheese on a single piece of okaki, sandwiching it doubles the thickness of the crispy okaki, so you get even more of that satisfying crunch ✨
First comes the crispy texture, then the mild creaminess of the cheese spreads across your palate. The flavors change as you chew, almost like they arrive one after another.
I think that little bit of time lag is part of what makes these so addictive—you just keep reaching for another one 😆
Of course, it’s great as a snack for kids, but it’s also a seriously good rice cracker to enjoy with a drink as an adult!

The resealable package helps keep the okaki from getting stale after opening. But in my case, I finish the whole bag so quickly that I barely ever use the zipper 😆
Size
Each piece is around 2.5 cm.

Just like Wagaya no Teppan, bite-sized snacks like these are so easy to eat—you just keep popping them into your mouth 😊
I hope I’ve managed to show you, even just a little, how great the combination of okaki and cheese is. Give it a try and see for yourself!
This one is bite-sized too, and it goes great with beer 🍺
