When you imagine a scene of someone lounging around and snacking, what kind of food comes to mind?

Many Japanese people would probably picture someone eating Senbei (Japan’s Savory Umami Rice Snacks).

The fact that such illustrations exist shows just how much this is a standard image in Japan 😄

This is because, since we were children, we’ve frequently seen scenes in Japanese anime and TV dramas where characters snack on senbei while taking it easy.

For instance, in the world-famous anime “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Swordsmith Village Arc (鬼滅の刃 刀鍛冶の里編) Episode 3 ,” Tanjiro was eating senbei 🍘 in a scene where he was chatting with Genya.

I believe that by having Tanjiro eat senbei, the creators were intentionally creating a “relaxed atmosphere” in that scene!

Which senbei do you think Tanjiro would like? 😄

That’s why senbei is an iconic snack for relaxation time in Japan 🇯🇵
Since this might be a uniquely Japanese thing, I thought it might be interesting from a foreigner’s perspective!

Personally, I’d love to see “The Clothed Maja” snacking on senbei, too! ☺️
