In Japan, cherry blossoms are starting to bloom, and spring is in full swing 🌸
So, this time, I’m introducing two brands of spring-limited rice crackers you can find at department store food halls.

Ganko Shokunin / HARUNE
Ganko Shokunin (がんこ職人) has a spring-limited senbei called “HARUNE” (春音), featuring a package with vivid, bright colors and cute animal illustrations.

Since many senbei packages have a traditional Japanese look, this kind of design is quite rare. It’s as cute as a scene from a picture book, so it’s a design that kids will love, not just adults.
They offer both gift boxes and small bags.

This is the small bag type.

It contains seven varieties of mini senbei.

They come in various shapes and colors, so you can enjoy looking at them before you even start eating.
And this is a nice detail — one of the crackers has the same raccoon from the package printed on it.

It’s not just about the looks; the flavors are also colorful. Three of them—chocolate, matcha, and zarame (coarse sugar)—are on the sweet side, while the other four are savory flavors like soy sauce and shrimp.

It’s a great balance. If you alternate between them, they’ll be gone in no time 😋
Ginza Akebono / Sorezore no Haru
When you think of spring in Japan, you think of cherry blossoms 🌸
Ginza Akebono (銀座あけぼの) has a spring-limited snack called “Sorezore no Haru” (それぞれの春), with a beautiful traditional Japanese package that looks like a snapshot of cherry blossom scenery.

The center has a semi-transparent, washi-style layer, so you can faintly see what’s inside.
There’s something subtle and refined about it that feels very Japanese.

And the contents feel just as spring-like. From cherry blossoms and butterflies to leaves and accented red and white beans, the shapes and colors are so beautiful.

The yellow butterfly is a light, crispy, and sweet okaki that almost melts in your mouth.

Other flavors include a lightly sweet matcha, as well as savory okaki like soy sauce and nori seaweed.

The crunchy texture of the sugar-coated red and white beans makes for a nice accent.
My personal favorite is the pink cherry blossom shape. It has that “Sakura flavor” so familiar to Japanese people 🌸

It has a faint cherry blossom scent, and it really tastes like spring in Japan.
For people in Western countries, it might raise the question: what does cherry blossom even taste like?
If you’re curious, this is a good one to try 🌸

Perfect for Spring Souvenirs
Both brands offer snacks that are visually stunning and full of flavor, making them the perfect souvenirs for spring 🌸
The moment people see the packaging, they’re sure to think, “So cute!” or “Beautiful!” And when they see the colorful senbei inside, there’s no doubt they’ll go “Wow!” even more.

These are delicious treats that everyone can enjoy, regardless of their country or generation. If you’re looking for a special gift, please give these a try ✨
