Looking for the perfect Valentine’s Day senbei (バレンタインせんべい) in 2026?
While visiting the Shinjuku Takashimaya (新宿高島屋) Valentine’s event on the 11th floor—as I shared in my previous report on the event—I was almost overwhelmed by the sea of beautiful chocolates and the incredible energy of the crowd 😳
For a moment, I nearly forgot about senbei! But then I remembered my true mission: exploring Valentine’s Day senbei. Since they weren’t sold at the main event hall, I headed down to the Depachika (デパ地下), the department store’s basement food hall.
As I mentioned in my post about Japanese Valentine’s culture, senbei is the perfect gift for those who aren’t big fans of sweets. While standard snacks like Happy Turn (ハッピーターン) usually don’t offer special editions, high-end brands in the basement floor have something truly special.
So, without further ado, here is my on-site report on 2026’s must-buy Valentine’s Day senbei from the Depachika! ✨
Akasaka Kakiyama(赤坂柿山)
The colorful and pop-style packaging is so fresh and cute—it completely flips the traditional, serious image of “Wa” (Japanese style) senbei on its head!

Inside, you’ll find bite-sized senbei, okaki, and arare in adorable shapes like hearts and flowers. (If you’re curious about the difference between senbei, okaki, and arare, check out this article!)

They also sell mini packs!

These are perfect whether you want to hand them out to a group or just try a few for yourself 👍

Their official website even has a dedicated Valentine’s Day page, actively promoting senbei as the perfect Valentine’s gift.

Bankaku Sohonpo(坂角総本鋪)
Bankaku Sohonpo is incredibly famous for “Yukari,” their signature crunchy shrimp crackers 🦐 For the season, this classic Yukari comes in special Valentine’s Day packaging! 💕

The packaging at the top center, which looks like a flower Kusudama (ornamental flower ball), is so gorgeous and cute! 🌸
They also offer Valentine’s-exclusive gift boxes with a lovely, festive atmosphere!

Ogura Sansou(小倉山荘)
As you can see from the exterior, Ogura Sanso is a brand rooted in traditional Japanese patterns 🇯🇵

Their Valentine’s exclusive product, “Uta-awase,” features a pale pink design with stylized flower illustrations. Wrapped in a chocolate-brown ribbon, it has the sophisticated look of a Western confectionery box 🎀

This product consists of bite-sized rice crackers (arare) and nuts coated in smooth chocolate.

The official website also reflects this same color palette—pale pink and chocolate brown—matching the theme of the product.

Ginza Akebono(銀座あけぼの)
With a package filled with red hearts and matching red individual wraps, this Valentine’s limited edition item catches the eye even from a distance ❤️👀

As I mentioned in my post about New Year’s senbei, I like Akebono’s “simple is best” approach to package design.
The massive heart-shaped senbei in the top center is said to be 25 centimeters wide!

Other products are also filled with heart-shaped rice crackers! 💕

Like a big heart, this is not “honmei-choco” but “honmei-senbei” – it’s the perfect gift for your special someone! (For more information on Japanese Valentine’s Day culture, including “honmei-choco,” check out this article.)
And the official website’s top page also features a deep, elegant velvet red, creating a sophisticated “adult Valentine” atmosphere ☺️

—So, what do you think? Which Valentine’s senbei caught your eye?
Next, I tasted and reviewed the Valentine’s senbei introduced today! Check out the post to find out how they actually taste 😋
